The September 2021 game at Palm Garden Golf Club was a ‘welcome back’ game for many of the double jab brigade who had plucked up the courage to venture out on the course once again. Many had already been swinging off the cobwebs in the last few weeks but for some it was a first outing for a few months.
The course, after a very heavy downpour the night before, was still in top condition and surprisingly buggies being still allowed on course, was good to have. The weather was perfect with a cool start and only a few hot holes towards the end.
El Pres had now settled back into the hardship of sitting in buggies with a carryout again, after spending a couple of months in Scotland carrying his clubs and already has the belly back to show for it!
With an early morning start 16 players took to the course with high hopes and the option of playing from whites with a 2 stroke penalty was taken up by many! This looked a good choice when those who started on the tenth couldn’t even find the blues, as it was 70 meters behind the whites. This turned out to be the order of the day with half the tee boxes being Black or pretty close to it.
That said, the resulting scoring from those playing of the pretty short ‘Whites’ didn’t produce the results many had hoped for. However a few of the short par 3’s were capitalized on, with a large number of successful golfers getting on at the first attempt.
We were quickly round without incident and soon on our way to the ICON kitchen restaurant for some much needed refreshment. A few roadworks and detours on the way made the first beer particularly welcome. Albert had laid on some local delights including intestine which went down well, with at least one table!!!
After some good food and quite a few beverages it was on to ceremonies.
This commenced with a tribute to our dear departed friend “Crackers” – Ian Craighead who passed away in April. This was the first opportunity for the group to say our goodbyes to this Klog’s stalwart. Ian had been an early member of the society serving as El Pres and Klogger of the year. A toast and a moments recollection to Ian and other absent Kloggers was made.

COTD
Pres of Vice was nominated for phone abuse on the first hole, where he unwisely called El Pres on the tee box. The wise wee Scotsman didn’t fall for the bait and instead Iain called Stan asking him to interrupt El Pres on the tee box to ask if we were off of blues or whites. So, in addition to the phone abuse, he had failed to read the Email instructions for the day!
Tony nominated El Pres for dismissing his chip going 10 feet past the pin to then chunk three chips and not reach the green. The later quickly dismissed and the not so Wise Iain took the honour!
Fines
There were surprisingly few fines this month, with only 4 jugs. Looks like those who took the option of playing off of white had one eye on the fines!
Iain was fined for his phone abuse.
