October 2016 Game at Tropicana Golf & Country Resort

Tropicana Golf & Country Resort was the venue for the October monthly game with 24 players registered for the day. The course was in great shape as always and the undulating, fast greens with multiple bunkers around most of the greens provided a testing challenge for all.

We played the East 1 and East 2 nines and after a prompt start at 1pm we were almost immediately stopped by the siren for rain/lightning. After about a 20 minute delay play resumed.

A notable mention should be made for Franz Hierz who probably chose the most dangerous place to wait out this delay …. directly next to 5 large metal conducting flag poles (should have been a COTD nomination)

We must say a big thank you to Mahmud Mohamed (member at Tropicana) who helped us arrange and book the game.

Post game dinner and prize giving was held at Pantai Seafood Restaurant which is very close to the club.

Results

The monthly medal winner for October was Iain Wise, with a score of 93 for 41 points (cut 5). Runner up, on count back, was Bernie Schobert with a gross of 85 for 41 points (cut 2) with 3rd place being Ricardo Castro with 89 for 40 points (cut 1). Best gross of the day was Martin Walsh with an 84.

The NTP winners were as follows:

Hole 3 : Stan Constantinides 3.0m

Hole 8 : Ron Linden 5.17m

Hole 13 : Enzo Filini 3.78m

Hole 17 : Mahmud Mohamed 4.9m

COTD

We had 8 nominations this month for COTD.

  1. El Pres for not recognising his guest who was Mahmud Mohamed
  2. Bernard Romahn for having erect nipples while he was teeing off
  3. Bernard Romahn for not accepting a celebration “fist” from Richard Rodwell and instead handing him his putter.
  4. Martin Walsh for having 20 points on the from 9 and “next to fuck all” on the back 9
  5. Dave Evans for a prolonged, multiple coughing fit delaying play bu his fellow players as they waited for quiet
  6. Mike Smith for shouting at his young caddy “We are not fucking Malaysians …. we all putt out!”
  7. Bernard Rohman for blowing Richard Rodwell’s ball into the hole
  8. Richard Rodwell for using his putter to tee off

Mike Smith was unanimously voted as COTD.

One fine was paid by Allan McNicoll for not making the ladies tee on one hole.
